SKIN TONE GUIDE
π« Medium cool skin tone
Medium depth with a rose or red undertone β often mislabeled warm
What medium cool skin looks like
Medium cool skin is deep enough that people assume it is warm or olive, and pink enough that golden foundation never quite sits right. The tell is a rose or red hue in the skin, silver that looks better than gold, and warm medium shades that turn orange while cool medium shades disappear. It is less common than medium warm, which is why shade ranges under-serve it.
- βMedium skin with pink, red, or a cool rose cast rather than gold
- βGolden foundation looks orange; cool foundation looks like skin
- βSilver or white gold flatters more than yellow gold
- βYou may still tan β cool does not mean you only burn
Foundation for medium cool skin
Medium cool, rose beige, or neutral-cool in the middle band. Names like cool medium, rose beige, neutral tan only if the undertone is actually rosy. Do not accept a warm medium just because the depth number matches.
Makeup colors
Berry

Rose
Plum
Lips: Rose, berry, and blue-based red. Terracotta pulls brown-orange.
Blush: Cool rose or berry, blended. Apricot blush adds the warmth you are trying to avoid in foundation.
Eyes: Cool brown, plum, burgundy, and taupe. Bronze only if it is reddish, not yellow-gold.
Skip: Orange foundation, yellow-gold highlighter, and mustard. Medium cool skin looks ruddy or sallow in yellow-based color, not glowing.
Color seasons that often match
Depth and undertone narrow the season. Contrast decides the rest β these are the usual matches, not a diagnosis.

If pink foundation looks grey and yellow foundation looks orange, you may be olive rather than medium cool. Read the olive skin tone guide.
Frequently asked questions
Can medium skin have a cool undertone?
Yes. Depth and undertone are separate. Medium cool skin tans and still has a pink or red hue. The test is the foundation: if every golden medium looks orange and a rose medium disappears, you are cool.
What lipstick works on medium cool skin?
Berry, rose, and blue-red. Brown-nudes and orange corals emphasize the warmth your skin does not have and can look muddy.
