FREE SKIN TONE FINDER
What's my skin tone?
Skin tone is your depth plus your undertone — fair warm, medium olive, deep cool. Upload one selfie and the free finder reads both. Your photo stays on your device.

Depth
How light or deep your skin is: fair, light, medium, tan, or deep. This is the number on the bottle. Sun changes it; your winter shade and summer shade can be neighbors.
Undertone
The hue underneath: warm (golden), cool (pink), or neutral. It does not change with a tan. Two medium skins can need completely different foundations.
Olive
A green-gold overtone, usually on medium or tan skin. Warm and cool tests both feel wrong. It has its own guide because it is not a depth.
Olive skin tone
🫒 Olive skin tone
A green-gold cast over medium or tan skin — warm and cool both feel wrong
Fair skin tone
The lightest shelf. Burns easily, veins easy to see, little visible melanin.
Light skin tone
Still light, with a bit more pigment. May tan slightly instead of only burning.
Medium skin tone
The middle of most foundation lines. Neither the lightest nor the deepest shades.
Tan skin tone
A golden or bronze baseline — not a temporary tan on a lighter skin tone.
Deep skin tone
Rich melanin. The deepest third of a foundation line, from deep brown to rich ebony.
Frequently asked questions
What is my skin tone?
Skin tone is two things at once: depth (how light or deep your skin is — fair, light, medium, tan, or deep) and undertone (the hue underneath — warm, cool, neutral, or olive). A foundation shade has to match both. Surface color changes with sun; undertone does not.
How do I check my skin tone from a photo?
Use the free undertone finder. It reads your skin’s hue angle for warm, cool, or neutral, and your ITA° lightness for a depth band, from one selfie. The analysis runs in your browser — the photo is never uploaded. Then open the matching guide on this page for foundation and makeup.
What is the difference between skin tone and undertone?
Skin tone usually means the depth you see: fair, medium, deep. Undertone is the color underneath that depth: golden, pink, or balanced. Two people can share a medium skin tone and need completely different foundations if one is warm and one is cool.
Is olive a skin tone or an undertone?
Olive is an overtone — a green-gold cast that usually sits on medium or tan skin, with a neutral-to-warm undertone. It is not one of the three classic undertones, which is why warm and cool tests both feel half-right. It has its own guide.
Is the skin tone check private?
Yes. The photo analysis runs on your device. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or sent to a server. You can confirm that in your browser’s network tab while it runs.
